Last month, a new platform called SauceMatch launched, offering a reverse video search for adult content, enabling creators and studios who find a clip of their work online to see where else it has been posted.
According to a statement from the company, the SauceMatch reverse video search tool “takes a clip, a GIF or a screenshot and searches its own index of over 4 million videos from adult tube sites, MissAV, Erome and NSFW Reddit.” The site is free to use and doesn’t require the user to establish an account.
“The search does not hand files to Google, Bing or any other engine,” SauceMatch explained. “It compares the upload against frames it has indexed itself. A result is labelled a match only after the frames of both videos pass a geometric check, and each match comes with a 0 to 100 confidence score and the frame pairs side by side.
“Reposts of the same video on other sites show up as separate Matches, which is the list a rights holder needs before sending takedown notices,” the announcement added. “Results that look alike but do not pass the check are shown apart as similar and marked unverified.”
A SauceMatch page for content owners explains the repost check. The announcement noted that “anyone can also ask for a video to be taken out of the SauceMatch index through its removal page.”
According to the announcement, SauceMatch also offers a face search. “From a clip or a few pictures, it lists videos in the index where the same performer appears, each linked to its source page,” the company explained. “It does not name anyone.”
“A takedown starts with knowing where the copies are,” said Zed, who built SauceMatch. “I wanted a search that shows its evidence, so a creator can see why a page matched before acting on it.”
The announcement said the “index grows every day but only covers what SauceMatch has collected,” noting that videos posted “only on paid sites, private groups or messaging apps will not be found.”
